Not that great...

Let me start off by saying that based on my original first hand perspective of this software, it is ok, but ok at best.

It seems like any computer software I have purchased in regard to learning Spanish has been subpar, at best and this software fits the bill to a T.

In today's era, Spanish is becoming an essential language to learn. My wife has been applying for jobs and it seems that at a rate of every one in three job postings has the phrase somewhere in the job requirements of "bilingual preferred". Not being bilingual, is now a disadvantage as someone who meets the same skill set as my wife or myself for that matter automatically gets the +1 for being bilingual and in turn, likely gets the job.

I mainly purchased this software because it shows as a "newer version" of another software with a different title that had average to above average reviews without having to spend 300.00 on the big brand software as that is just not economically feasible at this point for me.

Before my review gets too critical, let me point out a few pros...

-affordable
-intuitive if you ONLY know very little to absolutely no Spanish. If your Spanish vocabulary is limited to words such as "hola, and como esta" then this software may be a step in the right direction for you.

Cons:
Much like any other Spanish software I've tried, this software is more or less for the vacationing tourist to learn simple/boring, yet perhaps essential touring vocabulary such as currency exchange and banking vocabulary, "where is" phrases, etc. If you are looking to make a friend, this isn't the software for you. I would like software that teaches basic essential socialization skills such as when you meet a fellow English speaking person. You know, like, wow it's really cold outside, hey, do you have a boyfriend? Or, have you ever tried the food at Olive Garden. This software is missing it all.

I suppose if you want to get really good at learning Spanish than you'd have to take a firsthand course where someone is speaking it directly to you, etc.

A couple of other things I would like to mention are as followed:

With Spanish there seems to be multiple forms for specific regions. Although while it is comparable, it is not exact. I work with some Spanish speaking Mexicans and started tossing around some of the phrases I've learned to them and they simply looked at me like I was an idiot and had absolutely no idea what I was talking about. Mind you, I know basic casual chit chat Spanish and communicate with these guys on a daily basis in their language.

With technology advanced in this era, you can yield similar results by using online free translator services such as google translate. In my opinion, this makes software such as this program almost essentially unessential.

Final note: the software does try hard to teach you and I like the fact that it uses the computers microphone to allow you to say and hear yourself repeat a word or phrase, but even that system seems somewhat flawed as voice recognition is somewhat mediocre at best and sometimes miss hears what you say even though you a certain you said it correctly.

Need Help

Since I received the software and installed on my system7 OS it has not work. I email the support group and they reply only on email with instruction which I have tried with no luck. It's been a few weeks and no one had called me as I request. The instruction I was able to follow since I worked in the computer field over twenty plus years. If no help soon I will return software to get my money back. It's sad in todays world that you can not receive a live support team and no phone number to contact for support. I'm very unhappy.
